In simple words, the T-score of a patient is compared to that of healthy individuals and BMD is obtained.

A score of -1.0 SD (standard deviation) to -2.5 usually points to Osteopenia. On the other hand, a patient with score below -2.5 SD is diagnosed with Osteoporosis.

The chances of bone getting fractured is higher in Osteoporosis. Bones of these patients can get fractured while performing daily routine activities (eg. walking, running etc.)
