If you want a presentable muscular body, you certainly cannot do without good biceps and triceps. If anyone asks you, “Are you working out?” You simply pull up your T-shirt (or whatever you are wearing) and let them judge for themselves. This same situation can become quite embarrassing if you have been hitting the gym regularly for many months (or years) and still having lank or unshapely arms.
While facing such a situation you often ask yourself (or others) “What am I doing wrong?” And it often happens that even after getting all the advice and doing research on your own end, you don’t get the desired result.
If that is your situation, then it can be helped. To make it easier for you, I have put here the seven most common bodybuilding mistakes that usually result in unsatisfactory arms.
Here are 7 Common Bodybuilding Mistakes Which Lead to Small Arms:
1. Bad Form
This happens with most of the young bodybuilders. They push themselves to lift too much of weight, but don’t care even a tiny bit about the form. This puts too much of pressure on muscles other than biceps and triceps, and you get poor quality results. If it is your forearm that’s getting bigger day by day then bad form might be the culprit.
To know about the proper form, you can consult an experienced gym instructor, or simply watch a video about ‘Right form for doing bicep/tricep exercises’ on YouTube.
It is easier to develop the wrong form while you are lifting heavy weights. So, make it light as it will help you in focusing more on your home. Don’t be embarrassed if you can lift only 5 KG dumbbells in the right way. If you have the correct form, you can increase the weight steadily the time.
2. Lack of Proper Nutrition
Muscles don’t come out of thin air. To make your body develop muscles, you need food. Unless you have a diet of a bodybuilder, you’ll never become a bodybuilder. Though protein is what you need primarily, do not forget to take a balanced amount of fat, complex carbohydrates, and vitamins and minerals as well.
As far as protein is concerned, take at least 1 g of protein per kg of your body weight to maintain healthy muscle mass.
3. Too Much Cardio
If big arms are what you want, cardio shouldn’t be your main priority. Cardio is necessary for building great health and stamina, but too much of it would mean that you are going into the league of marathon runners, and not that of bodybuilders. So, do cardio but within a limit.
4. Over Workout
Some people, in the teeny rush of feelings, only go to the gym to train their arms. And in the end, their efforts are fruitless.
Don’t be one of them.
After each day of arm-workout, rest your arms for at least two days. Also, if you train only your arms every day and leave the rest of the body, your body might end up becoming disproportionate. Don’t do that. Give everybody muscle it’s due if you want to have a fit, muscular, and attractive body.
5. Doing It too Fast
This might be one of the most common mistakes. Never rush your curls. Get a proper grip on the weight, and take at least two seconds for curling up, and three seconds for curling town. This will give you instant results. Keep this in mind, at least in case of bodybuilding, the slow and steady always wins the race.
6. Doing the Same Set of Exercises
If you do the same set of exercises each week. In sometime your arms would become accustomed to the movement, and your progress would become slower. So, after a period of every few weeks, feel free to add something different to your workout. For example, every once in a while, you can add complex exercises like weighted dips (for triceps) and chin-ups (for biceps) to get the best results.
7. Not Training Legs
Some researchers from Norway have confirmed that a good leg workout can give a substantial testosterone boost to your body. Don’t miss this advantage. Train your legs before your arms workout for at least 11 weeks, and you’ll definitely get much better results. To achieve this, you can simply do basic leg exercises like lunges, deadlifts, and squats before your arm workout. So, These are the few Common Bodybuilding Mistakes each bodybuilder do once in their life.
